1.Empty data block message pops up when downloading data?

image002

This message pops up if logger memory is empty. So check the start options used to start the logger.

2.When downloading data following prompt pops up

image004

This prompt pops up, if any of the .dat files of the site header is misplaced from the data directory. Calibration process of the data will not carry out further in this case. To get the calibrated data and graphs delete the empty data block using the Edit Site Data option.

3.How to enter Calibration data of the sensor?

Calibration data can be entered using the Enter Calibration data option of the software. User needs to select the calibration type used by the sensor associated with the logger. For details refer page 8 of the technical handbook.

4.What are the accessories needed to retrieve data to a laptop?

USB to serial adapter or a serial cable is required to retrieve data to a laptop.

5.What is the distance from the bottom of the counter weight to the lower end of the sensor element of the water level recorder?

Distance from the bottom of the counter weight to the lower end of the sensor element is 130mm for standard weights. We have special short counter weights to measure water levels in shallow streams – 65mm from the bottom of the counterweight to the lower end of the sensing element.

6.Pressure Logger data showing diurnal variations?

Groundwater and fractured rock aquifers amplify the oscillations due to atmospheric pressure force because of low porosity. This change will affect the difference in pressure measured by the data logger. These variations are common in ground water level measurements.

7.What are the factors affecting the accuracy of the water level probes?

Following factors will improve the data accuracy of the water level recorders

  • Frequent probe cleaning.
  • Frequent checking of the sensor element calibration data.
  • Frequent download of data.

These operating procedures are followed to minimize the effect of variables that effect data quality, then an accuracy of + or – 5 mm can be expected.

8.How can we recalibrate data after making changes in the calibration values?

You can use calibrate site data to recalibrate all data blocks associated with the site header. To recalibrate a single data block use the Edit Site Data option of the software.

Click Edit Site data after selecting the Site Header.

Click on the data block to do the recalibration of data, retype the sensor serial number in the Sensor Sn column. Click Exit and save the changes to finish.

9.How can data be exported to a spreadsheet?

Recorded data from the logger can be exported to Excel from the .PRN file existing in the data directory of the site header.

First column is the Date /Time of recorded data, second column of data is the raw data recorded by the logger and third column is the calibrated data of the logger.

For more details email us at technical@odysseydatarecording.com for the document Importing Data to Excel.

10.Unusual numbers are displaying while doing the probe trace mode of the water level recorder?

One of the reasons for this is the low battery voltage. Battery voltage should be above 6.0 volts. In this case check the Battery voltage while trace is on.

This can be also due to damaged sensor probe.

11. How can I get a copy of the current version Odyssey software?

Either email us at technical@odysseydatarecording.com or download files from this site.
